STEC Wins the First Prize of the 2025 Building Materials Science and Technology Progress Award

Date:2026-05-26

The evaluation results of the 2025 Building Materials Science and Technology Award were officially announced recently. Shanghai Triumph Energy Conservation Engineering Co., Ltd. (STEC), affiliated with China Triumph International Engineering Group Co., Ltd., won the First Prize for Technological Progress with its "Key Technologies and Equipment for Oxy-Fuel Combustion Integrated with Low-Energy Carbon Capture in Building Materials Kilns". This award aims to recognize entities that have made outstanding contributions to promoting the green, low-carbon, and high-quality development of the national building materials industry, and it serves as an authoritative honor in the field of scientific and technological innovation within the industry.

This award-winning project was jointly researched and implemented by STEC alongside multiple institutions, including the CNBM Bengbu Design & Research Institute for Glass Industry, Tianjin Cement Industry Design & Research Institute, and China United Cement Corporation. Focusing on solving the core challenges of carbon emission reduction in the building materials industry, the project innovated a new silicon-based carbon dioxide adsorbent and a series of efficient physical capture and purification technologies. It developed a novel silicon-based carbon dioxide adsorbent with high adsorption capacity and created low-energy physical carbon capture and purification processes along with core equipment. This achieved a carbon dioxide capture rate of ≥92%, a comprehensive energy consumption for oxy-fuel combustion (including oxygen production) coupled with carbon capture of ≤1.6 GJ/t CO2, and reduced the unit CO2 capture cost by over 100 RMB/t CO2. Currently, STEC has built the world’s first and largest-scale demonstration projects for low-energy carbon capture coupled with oxy-fuel combustion, capturing 200,000 tons of CO2 per year in the cement industry and 50,000 tons of CO2 per year in the glass industry. This technology fills domestic and international gaps, providing an internationally leading solution for the green and low-carbon transition of the building materials industry, and holds significant value for widespread application.

Taking this award as a new starting point, STEC will continue to deeply explore frontier technologies in energy-saving power generation and carbon reduction, accelerating the innovation and development of core technologies. While speeding up its application and promotion in the domestic market, the company is actively engaging with large international groups and keeping pace with global trends in carbon reduction technology development. It is committed to driving China’s green building materials technology to "go global," contributing Chinese expertise to the low-carbon transition of the global building materials industry, and making greater contributions to the realization of the "Dual Carbon" goals.
